OUGD601_Context of Practice 3

End of Module Evaluation

1.  What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

Throughout this module I have developed my research skills, learning new methodologies through processes such as case studies. Case studies have helped me gain understanding of a particular subject through investigating theories in the real world, they have also aided in proving a particular point and triangulating arguments.

2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?
I wouldn’t necessarily say I have developed my approaches to design production as my practical synthesis was based on automatically generating graphic design and passing it off as my own. What I did develop was my conceptual approach to a brief and how I can prove a point through theory and not just how it looks. This conceptual side to my approach informed my entire process and I believe fully synthesised the points my written element brought to light.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?
Again I feel like the conceptual approach to the brief was the strength behind all of my work, although I didn’t do much work in the design department, the way my concept was presented fully illustrated my point without being long winded. This conceptual approach will aid me in every brief in the future because it is a necessity in my eyes to have a formulaic approach to design where concept is key and works hand in hand with the aesthetics.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future?
I believe this brief could have been taken much further than it was, it had the potential to reach a further field than just the designers within the institution walls. If it was posted on platforms such as Behance which appeals to a global audience I could have made a better judgement through feedback and views to whether or not the app Trend Generator does in fact create graphic design and how people react to it.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?
1.The biggest thing I would do differently next time would be to just keep on top of the workload, I found it really overwhelming and at sometimes suffocating. Keeping on top of this would allow me to have more freedom to address different concepts as opposed to selecting one because it needs to be done soon.
2. If I would have come up with the idea to conduct the social experiment much sooner it could have featured heavily in my written element too as opposed to solely aiding my practical.
3. The practical could have been developed much more and reached a wider audience that would in turn strengthen the case I was proving.
4. I could have reached out to the Brudenell with the gig posters created using the generator app and got their response to see whether or not they would be willing to take the posters on bard, again proving my point to a greater extent.
5. Organisation is key to being on top of projects I feel, writing notes and filing them in a much better way would have aided throughout the writing process as I often found myself spending a large quantity of time searching for specific quotes or research. This simple task will allow me to work more efficiently with a lot less stress.

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas:

The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
