Poster Feedback
As part of my practical synthesis I asked peers for feedback on the designs created on the app whilst passing them off as my own to see if they could be fooled into thinking it is well considered design or if it was just seen as stylistic design with no relation to the content.
'Love the posters'
'Very crisp, clean and on trend. Fits in with the hip and trendy design styles'
'The style is very edgy and current. The style is very trendy e.g. the colours used and the imagery'
'Too polished and clean to represent the Brudenell Social Club'
'The style is bold and would stand out well against other gig posters, though I think they work best with both image and type, not just type'
'The style is very common at the moment with the layout and type'
'Love the consistency throughout'
'Modern style works well'
'Style is spot on'
'The circles should be changed''Great design'
'Consider resolution of images as they're a little pixelated'
'Overall the posters work well as a series'
I then explained to the audience that they had in fact been generated using an app purchased for £1.49 and required no design input on my behalf whatsoever and asked for their personal thoughts regarding the impact this has on them and the graphic design industry.
'It feels cheapening in regards to the design industry. It will only develop as an app becoming better at the job. Hopefully we won't be replaced by apps one day'
'I still feel like the posters represent the type of design used in venues such as Belgrave and The Brudenell... I also feel cheated'
'Could be designed by anyone, no real connection between design and context'
'I feel that it's cheating, but the posters do look good. Now I know it's slightly offending because it means nothing has gone into the making of it'
'The app is making it seem like Graphic Design is easy and not much to it, like when people ask designers to do work for free, deprofessionalising'
'I think this has put a negative representation of graphic designers'
'HURT'
