Above are a selection of punk posters and designs I pulled from the internet to give me more of an understanding of punk and the aesthetics. From the designs I have collected I have realised that they're the complete opposite of my style and how I work. The punk posters are very rough around the edges, garish bright colour, crudely made and have no actual layout to them, it looks like a collage of cuttings etc... Whereas my style is more minimal, simplistic, structured with a minimal use of colour to contrast. However i've been told to look at a series of punk band posters made in a swiss modernist style because they're more suited to how I work.
Modernist punk posters-
These posters are a lot more my sort of thing. They all follow a similar structure and it's clearly evident there has been a lot of thought and effort gone into the aesthetics to give them that modernist feel. I love how simple geometric shapes have been used to represent album covers or a band with a minimal use of colour. I would like to do something similar to these designs when we get our actual design brief. I was thinking about creating minimal punk symbol based on the primary research I undertook or something along them lines.
