Design for print and web- web inspiration

For the content of the website I have researched other similar events and what's on their website and what the type festival need from a website and what would the visitors of it use it for.

Leeds Print Festival
The website is pretty basic and simple to use, it only has a few features which is a benefit for visitors as they know what they need when visiting a website so it's good to have that easily available making the website very functional.
The website offers;
  • Twitter feed
  • What's on
  • Blog
  • Shop
  • Archive
  • Contact details

Pick Me Up
Pick me up is another similar event just on a larger scale, the contents on the website are pretty similar to those available on LPF. Though pick me up does have a search bar a much more information and images due to the scale of the festival. The content depends as much on the scale as well as what the requirements are.
From my research I have gathered that because For The Love of Type is only a small scale pop-up festival it only requires the key bits of information such as;

  • About
  • What's on
  • Contact details
  • Location
  • Ticket purchasing
  • Blog (to keep updated)
  • A feed (maybe, depending on popularity)

Design for print and web- branding inspiration

To understand the range of materials and uniformity needed for an identity and involved in the branding of an even or a company I have researched branding and selected a few of my favourites that had a wide variety of items. From the research I undertook most things I already knew and were completely obvious to me; the design should be uniform throughout so that an envelope looks like it belongs with a notebook, or a pen fits with a stamp with both design and colour choices.

The main reason for the images below are to give me an idea of the vast range of products that are used within identities and how the designs can actually be applied to the products.

Passport
Passport have a huge amount of products branded for a variety of purposes, but the design is all in keeping with each other and it's obvious that they're all related. That's one of the key parts of branding that the designs are all in keeping and obviously related. Looking down the list of photographs it is easy to see that key is same colours, same fonts, same logos and similar layouts that are in keeping with one and other.

Based on the research I have compiled a list of what is required for my branding based on what the brief states-

  • Poster tubes
  • Envelopes
  • Tickets
  • Posters
  • Postcards
  • Programme book
(All the same colour, style and containing the same logo)

Lecture synthesis

Or isn't art and design just about the visual?

Aims of the module
To provoke you into thinking about design, rather than just 'doing it'
To encourage you to pursue issues in more depth
To form your own conclusions independently of practitioners and academics
To experiment with ideas to see if they work in practice

Synthesis All component parts of the project engaging in one complex, dynamic process... Informed engagement. It's doing that's deepened by a critical understanding of doing. The realisation of theory in, and through, practice... Praxis

Practitioners are right to worry that academics study what is essentially a hands on subject removes it from the reality of practice.

Designers often work intuitively, without knowingly applying theory. This module aims to get you to reflect on that process.
