A manifesto is a published verbal declaration of the intentions, motives, or views of the issuer, be it an individual, group, political party or government. A manifesto usually accepts a previously published opinion or public consensus and/or promotes a new idea with prescriptive notions for carrying out changes the author believes should be made. It often is political or artistic in nature, but may present an individual's life stance. Manifestos relating to religious belief are generally referred to as creeds.
'First things first'
'We, the undersigned, are graphic designers, photographers and students who have been brought up in a world in which the techniques and apparatus of advertising have persistently been presented to us as the most lucrative, effective and desirable means of using our talents. We have been bombarded with publications devoted to this belief, applauding the work of those who have flogged their skill and imagination to sell such things as: cat food, stomach powders, detergent, hair restorer, striped toothpaste, aftershave lotion, beforeshave lotion, slimming diets, fattening diets, deodorants, fizzy water, cigarettes, roll-ons, pull-ons and slip-ons.
By far the greatest effort of those working in the advertising industry are wasted on these trivial purposes, which contribute little or nothing to our national prosperity.
In common with an increasing numer of the general public, we have reached a saturation point at which the high pitched scream of consumer selling is no more than sheer noise. We think that there are other things more worth using our skill and experience on. There are signs for streets and buildings, books and periodicals, catalogues, instructional manuals, industrial photography, educational aids, films, television features, scientific and industrial publications and all the other media through which we promote our trade, our education, our culture and our greater awareness of the world.
We do not advocate the abolition of high pressure consumer advertising: this is not feasible. Nor do we want to take any of the fun out of life. But we are proposing a reversal of priorities in favour of the more useful and more lasting forms of communication. We hope that our society will tire of gimmick merchants, status salesmen and hidden persuaders, and that the prior call on our skills will be for worthwhile purposes. With this in mind we propose to share our experience and opinions, and to make them available to colleagues, students and others who may be interested'
My manifestos
Politics
I believe the democratic society we live in because of politics is the key to running a country compared to say... North Korea for example. By offering the country different policies and views through political parties it gives the public the opportunity to select what is more suited to them through voting, if they wish to do so.
History
History is not only something that is a memorable event that has happened in the past, it is something from which we can learn from both as a nation but also as an individual. Without history we would have no appreciation for our nation and what it has taken to get to where we are. We wouldn't know the hurt and suffering brave men and women have gone through to get us to where we are. without history we would lack the cultures we have embraced and called our own.
Society
I believe the society we live in today is a broken society, there's; crime, cuts, debt, sexism, racism etc... But even through the tough times some areas of society come together and celebrate being a community, there's a lot of negativity in the air with everything but society is strong and still sees the positives as opposed to the mass negatives.
Culture
The diverse culture the country has embraced can only do us a world of good through the diverse selection of food, language, arts... Without culture the world would be a boring place and it would a lot harder to experience something new on a day to day basis. The introduction of new, diverse cultures brings together communities both old and new.
