OUGD404 DESIGN PRINCIPLES- Layout and grid inspiration

Below are publications whose layouts stand out and are something I admire and would influence my DPS. The main features I like about them is the simplicity and also the layout of body copy, they've used multiple columns which makes it easier to read but also makes it aesthetically more pleasing in my eyes.

OUGD406 DESIGN PRACTICE- communication is a virus, Infographics

Because my role in the group is to mock up an app where people can view results via info graphics. I thought the first step will to see what coffee or tea related infographics are already out there and see what I can gain and what'll influence me.

I had the idea of incorporating a cup infographic in my app therefore I decided to focus solely on cup themed infographics;

I think the using the liquid as levels to create a proportional bar is genius, it's so simple and a great way to fully utilise the cup and use it as an infograph. This could be developed by having partly filled proportional cups instead of filling the whole cup, meaning that all the cups together equal a full cup. Aesthetic wise I think the majority of the designs above are pretty poor in my opinion mainly because of colour choices and execution. For example I don't particularly like the hand drawn one because I prefer a more precise, clean line. The main one that stands out the most and I feel will influence me the most is the top one because the cup is a lot simpler with less of a curve and more square. Even though it is similar to all the other designs it just seems a lot more simpler to me probably because of the uniform grid layout and the colour choices.

This is another option on how to utilise the cups shape to create an info graph, this time using a birds eye view and using the rim of the cup to create a pic chart. This would only be useful for comparing results of sales meaning only one page would be involved, whereas if I used the other style of infograph I could use a cup per celeb, therefore increasing page numbers on the app. But this infograph could come in handy for the comparison page of the app which will summarise the whole results and allow the viewer to compare sales.
